CROSS COUNTRY
Already the county middle school recordholder, Isabella Sanchez simply followed up that performance with another sterling performance at last week’s Middle Georgia Middle School Athletic League Championships. Running a time of 12:57.06, Sanchez easily took first place, leading the Gray Station Middle School girls to a finish of third overall.
That third-place finish was largely the result of a strong presence by local runners near the front with six being among the top 20, led by Becca Durrett in 11th and Raegan Prophet in 13th with times of 15:41.00 and 15:56.28. Trailing them close behind were Mary Barnwell in 16th and Banks Dyer in 18th as they timed in at 16:31.12 and 16:48.59.
Led by Owen Wommack’s sixth-place time of 13:20.44, Gray Station was fourth in the boys meet with other top times being posted by Camden McWirter in 16th and Rylan Fuller in 18th with times of 14:09.50.
In the event’s JV race, local runners took six of the top 14 finishing spots. Leading were Carter Owens in third, Tripp Arnold in sixth, Caleb Waters in ninth, Maverick Rhodes in tenth, Nick Paschal in 11th and Emmitt Michum in 14th.
Catelen Myers was the top JV girls finisher in front of Peyton Tate in fifth, Brooklyn Rogers in ninth, Arianna Smith in 15th, Rylee Bell in 16th, Jordyn Jackson in 19th and Cadey Snow in 20th.
