A Jones County man lost his life in fire at his residence on Lite-N-Tie Road in the early hours of Oct. 13.
A press release from Emergency Management Director and Jones County Fire Chief Don Graham stated firefighters located the homeowner Danny Daniel inside the charred dwelling, and it was evident that he had perished in the blaze.
Graham said Jones County Department of Fire Rescue responded to the Oct. 13 structure fire at 6:30 a.m. to find a singlewide mobile home fully involved with fire. The chief said firefighters were unable to perform an initial interior search due to heavy fire conditions.
Graham added that the homeowner was believed to have been inside the said dwelling when the fire started.
“It was very clear that the fire started on or near a day bed located in the living room area,” he said. “Firefighters brought the fire under control within 15 minutes and began an interior search for victims.”
The chief said the cause of the blaze was likely due to a smoldering cigarette, although the investigation is still ongoing.
Graham said that the victim was known by many in Jones County.
“Danny never met a stranger, he loved music and playing his drums, and had one heck of collection of VW Beetles and Karman Gaias.”
The fire fatality was the first for Jones County since 2019.
