Girls team opens with high-scoring win in invitational

LADY HOUNDS BASKETBALL

Admittedly, Lady Greyhounds head basketball coach ChoRhonda Gwaltney-Harris says that her team has things to work on in the early throes of the season. The other half of the coin, is the win-loss column, one where Jones County is now 1-0 after Saturday’s 69-59 win against Greenbrier in the Hooping In Middle Georgia Invitational hosted by JCHS.

“We did some good things but also have a lot to work on. We’re still working on learning how to play together,” Gwaltney-Harris said.

One of those good things was putting up points, led by Kimmya Epps’ 27 points.

Last year, the most points scored in a single game by JCHS was 35.

Regardless, starting any week of practice on the heels of a win improves makes that week a bit easier, and that’s exactly what the Lady Hounds gained with Saturday’s victory.

“We came out with a win, so we’re obviously happy with that,” Gwaltney-Harris said. “We got the win, that’s all that matters.”

A stretch of two games in two days awaits the Lady Hounds. After playing Houston County on Friday, they’ll take on Central Macon in the Hypesouth Girls Hardwood Invitational which will be held at Warner Robins. Tip off is set for 3 p.m.
