Prairie Chic Boutique, a women’s western themed shop, recently opened in Jones County inside Trend Setters in Gray, offering stylish and fashionable clothing with a taste of the wild West.
The boutique is located at 147 James Street, and is open Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Kim Leamon, the owner of Prairie Chic Boutique, said her husband was from the south, so he wanted to live in the south again. She said she didn’t want to live in Florida, so Georgia was the closest she could get without it being in Florida. She said they wanted to live near a lake, and they moved to Lake Sinclair.
“I love this little community; I might be looking to sell the lake house soon. I love the people here. They are wonderful,” she said. “I want to belong in Jones County, and it’s hard to belong living in Eatonton. I love that everyone is supportive of the businesses and each other in Gray.”
She said she has really enjoyed opening her own business and hopes to see new faces step into the door. She said she loves shopping for the items she puts in her store.
“I moved here two and half years ago from Montana, and I wanted to bring a little bit of that western theme here with me. I love all things western.
When I was offered a spot here at Trend Setters, my husband thought it was a good idea.
Prairie Chic Boutique was born from that,” Leamon said.
The owner said Prairie Chic Boutique was named by her son who suggested it. She said she sells traditional size clothing, plus size clothing, jewelry, Christian literature, purses, handbags, wallets, hats, belts, and more. She said she tries to make her items affordable.
“I love Prairie Chic Boutique, but it was a little slow getting things up and running. I opened in July,” Leamon said.
“I love what I do, and this is my first venture. I was an assisted living administrator, and I miss doing that, but I love this, too.
It’s something totally different.” She said the boutique gives Jones County residents another shopping option, so they don’t have to go to Macon or Atlanta for the big box stores.
She said her boutique is a little different from others around, plus it’s located at Trend Setters in Gray, making it more convenient.
“I pray my way in, and every day I say, ‘Lord, please help me be a blessing to someone who needs it.’ This business allows me to do that. The freedom to be able to give someone a discount or even something free is great. It makes me feel good,” the owner said.
Leamon said people who have visited Prairie Chic Boutique like her business and her products. She said she enjoys meeting new people, and it’s been a fun adventure. She said she plans to be in Jones County for the rest of her life and wants a small home in the country.
“I want to put down roots here, and stay,” she said. “It’s been great being a part of Trend Setters and having my own boutique. I love the southern hospitality, because you don’t get that where I’m from. I hope to stay here forever, and I hope to see more people stopping by in the near future.”
