Jones County 4H outlines Service Learning Projects

The fall semester of the 2022-2023 school year has come and gone.

During that time, Jones County 4-H focused several of their activities around giving back to the community with the help of their students through Service Learning Projects.

These projects not only brought smiles to the faces of the recipients, but also to the students who completed the projects.

Some of the fall projects that were completed consisted of making t-shirt dog toys for Jones County Animal Services, crafting kindness pencils to distribute to other students throughout their schools, assembling survival kits for law enforcement and first responders, collecting canned goods to donate that were donated to ten families in need in the community, making sensory boxes for all of the special needs classrooms throughout the county, and going to sing Christmas carols at the nursing homes and to businesses across downtown Gray.

These activities combined for over five hundred youth service hours for our great community throughout the fall semester alone.

4-H hosts Service Learning Activities once a month at Clifton Ridge and Gray Station Middle Schools as in-school club meetings for students, but also once a month after school at the Extension Office.

After school Service Learning activities are free to attend and are open to any 2nd-12th grade student.

If you are interested in getting your student involved in 4-H Service Learning Activities or any other 4-H activity, please call the Jones County Extension Office at (478) 986-3958 for information on how to sign up.
