TENNIS HOUNDS
The region tournament awaits the Jones County tennis teams following spring break, a span of matches that will determine state tournament spots and possible home court in the first round.
Both teams found victory last week to close out region play, the Greyhounds beating both Eagles Landing and Locust Grove with the Lady Hounds beating Locust Grove after falling to Eagles Landing by the same score.
Singles play was a strength for the Greyhounds, winning a combined five of six matches against both team opponents. Against Eagles Landing, Roman Hanania’s 8-1 win was followed up with victories of 8-0 and 8-3 by Ethan Hill and Fred Ogletree. Hill and Hanania also won 8-0 against Locust Grove. Nick Brown and Kaleb Durden also picked up a doubles win in both matches.
Anna Hill got an 8-3 win against Eagles Landing and 8-3 against Locust Grove. Adding to the Lady Hounds run of success against Locust Grove was Ashlyn Rowland’s 8-3 win at No. 2 singles and wins in doubles by scores of 8-1 and 8-0 by Lyndsie Hanner and Chloe Scarborough as well as Mallory Herndon and Reagan Bowman. – Brad Harrison
