–George Sheffield “He is risen” (Matt 28:6) The first people Jesus appeared to after His resurrection was to women. His disciples were too busy cowering and hiding, but the women were busy ministering to Jesus in that they boldly came to the tomb, in spite of the guards, in spite of the dark and early hour, to finish preparing Jesus’ body for burial. Jesus appeared to these loyal ladies and commissioned them to go tell others that He is risen. Odd, because in that day, the testimony of women was not considered valid or trustworthy. Yet Jesus gave these women the authority to testify of His resurrection.
Jesus did not, still does not, comply with traditions of men or cultural habits if those things are in contrast to His word.
Jesus does not bend to political correctness or cultural wokness. He stands on the word of God. He is the living word of God (Jn 1:1).
These blessed women did as Jesus commanded, and told the disciples about Him being alive.
And how did the disciples react? “And their words (the words of the women) seemed to them (the disciples) as idle tales, and they believed them not” (Lk 24:11). Never treat the valid word of God as idle tales, regardless of who testifies of it--women, children, or former honky-tonk singers. Always believe the word of God.
