Finney wins again, next fi ght is Oct. 10 on ESPN+
Torrez Finney may have been fighting in a new venue on Friday, but the result was similar. With a first-round knockdown of El J Portee in the Nashville Underground event, the former Greyhound two-sport standout remained undefeated with a 6-0 record.
“It went really well.
Obviously, it was a dominant victory,” Finney said.
How dominant? Well, Portee was not able to land any punches on Finney, and according to statistics tracked at the fight, Finney landed 152 punches in the first and only round of the fight.
“I felt like that it should have been stopped earlier, but the ref didn’t call it,” Finney said. “So, I kept punching.”
Finney said that getting control early on was a key to his quick victory.
“It went about the way that I expected. I just knew I was a more complete fighter and could take it how I wanted.
Once I got a takedown, I knew I could get it under control,” Finney said. “When I grapple, I look for better positions and know what my second, third and fourth moves will be. I fight for position and keep moving forward.
“I want to control every aspect of the fight.”
More exciting for Finney is his next step. On Oct. 10, he will be fighting in the Dana White Contender Series event in Las Vegas with a UFC contract on the line. The fight will be on ESPN+.
“Fighting is fighting; anything can happen in a fight.
These guys are professionals with multiple fights under their belt and have goals, too,” Finney said. “You want it to not be close, but it’s tough to assume for certain people. I feel like in my case because of my style and who I am, I will dominate. I believe that I am one of the best in the country, and my skillset speaks for itself.”
