GREYHOUND FOOTBALL
Greyhounds head coach Mike Chastain is not shy about making sure the Greyhounds are tested firmly early in the season.
Their four-game region slate includes Northside, Peach County and Perry, but Friday’s scrimmage is perhaps the sternest challenge.
Jones County will be able to evaluate itself against arguably the premiere program in the state of Georgia on Friday when it travels to Buford. It will also serve as logistics run through for the Greyhounds, who tend to try and play one non-region game per year in the Atlanta area to get used to traveling if needed during the postseason.
Jones County has traveled to North Gwinnett and Dacula the past two seasons.
The Wolves’ brand of football speaks for itself.
Since 2012, they have won six state titles and advanced to the state title game two other times.
Last year, they moved up to the state’s highest classification and were 11-0 before being upset in the second round.
It’s safe to say that JCHS may not face a greater assembly of talent on the opposite side of the field than it will on Friday.
The Greyhounds offense with Miami commitment Judd Anderson at quarterback and receiver and Oklahoma pledge Zion Ragins will have the chance to match up against some of the nation’s top recruits.
Traveling Hounds will get their first look at Georgia quarterback commit Dylan Raoila, who transferred to Buford to be closer to Athens. Also on the team are KJ Bolden, a safety who committed to Florida State over the weekend, and defensive lineman and Ohio State commit Eddrick Houston. The new-look defense under the tutelage of defensive coordinator Will Conner will also be tested, especially through the air.
That’s because the Wolves received a transfer in the offseason with the arrival of arguably the top-rated quarterback in the country, Georgia commit Dylan Raiola.
