Volley Hounds win three of four to begin season

VOLLEY HOUNDS

The Volley Hounds’ schedule is backloaded with region matches that begin Sept. 5, so the path between now and then is centered on building up momentum between now and when the most critical matches arrive.

That business was handled by Jones County last week as the Lady Greyhounds won three of their first four matches to begin the season. JCHS opened things up last Tuesday, topping Putnam County 25-22 and 25-8 before dropping a close decision to Lake Oconee Academy by identical scores of 25-21.

“I feel like we’re going in the right direction. We have lots of momentum behind us,” Lady Greyhounds head coach Kim Hanner said. “The girls are working together as a team and communicating well. We’re still working hard every day and getting to where we can pinpoint smaller errors and tweak things. We still have work to do but were going in right direction.”

Jones County’s home debut on Thursday netted a clean sweep. After starting out with a 25-9 win, the Lady Hounds pulled away late to win 25-23 for a 2-0 sweep against the War Eagles. The Volley Hounds closed the night out with taking care of Piedmont Academy. Going against a tougher challenge, Jones County won 25-16 and kept the intensity up, winning 25-18 for the sweep.

“Piedmont had some really big servers, and by the time we played them, our girls were tired,” Hanner said. “It took them a minute to adjust because we had not seen that yet.”

In JV action, Jones County took a pair of 2-0 wins against Putnam County by scores of two 25-8, as well as 25-14 and 25-15, in addition to 25-11 and 25-16 against Piedmont Academy.
