Urgency speeds up for Hounds following bye week

GREYHOUND FOOTBALL

The Greyhounds were able to rest and fine-tune things last week during the first of their two open dates. Now, the urgency accelerates.

The Greyhounds host Eagles Landing on Friday for their homecoming game. It will be a very early matchup of a pair of teams 1-0 in the region. Eagles Landing won Sept. 15 by a score of 35-21 against Union Grove, while Jones County began region play by beating Locust Grove 54-12.

Friday won’t be the only game in the region with high stakes. Warner Robins, off to a 1-0 region start, hosts Ola, off to a 4-0 overall start. Jones County, by the way, plays Oct. 6 at Ola.

Before that takes place, however, the first matter of business for Jones County is an Eagles Landing team that has won two in a row after an 0-3 start with losses to AAAAAAA heavyweight Grayson as well as Monroe area and Spalding. Defense has been an issue for the Eagles in those losses with a combined 179 points surrendered.

Jones County will look to add to that misery on Friday.

As a team, the Greyhounds are averaging 211 passing yards and 168 rushing yards per game. Now entrenched as Jones County’s starting quarterback, Devin Edmonds, is a combined 43-for-73 in the last three games for 655 yards and five touchdowns with an interception.

Tyler Stewart leads the team in receiving by three yards ahead of Zion Ragins and has at least a touchdown in all five Greyhound contests this year.

Look for JCHS to continue to lean of a varied group of running styles at running back where Jaylen Dekle, David Little, Bruno Hicks and Zion Ragins have each spit considerable time.
