Volley Hounds wrap up regular season ahead of region tournament

VOLLEYBALL

The Volley Hounds continued to show that they can hang with the upper half of teams in their region last week. Now comes the time for all of the pieces to come together when it matters most.

The region meet begins this week for Jones County on Thursday with the final round on Saturday.

Jones County wrapped up region play last week with a pair of home matches against Locust Grove and Union Grove. While falling short to Union Grove 25-18 and 25-14, the match against the Wildcats was agonizingly closer. After winning the opening set 25-14, JCHS fell short 25-21 to Locust Grove prior to losing 15-9 in the match-deciding sequence.

“We are so close to making a breakthrough.

I often feel like we have two different teams, and whichever one shows up, that will be the outcome,” Lady Greyhounds head coach Kim Hanner said.

“They have it in them. We just have to keep pushing and keep having the drive to keep going.”

Jones County split a pair of non-region matches late last week, sweeping Spalding 26-24 and 25-20 to go with a 2-1 loss to Lamar County.

Even in defeat, there was a showcase of grit, battling back from a 25-20 loss to win 28-26 to extend the match only to lose 15-9.

The Lady Greyhounds also took on Howard Monday on senior night, bidding farewell to the program’s first group of four-year starters – Kamryn Hardwick, Kylie Chastain, Nya Warren and Pressley Vinson.
