HOOP HOUNDS
At the end of a long Saturday, the Greyhounds wrapped up the Hooping In Middle Georgia Tournament as host by taking on New Hampstead. As the final game of the day, tipoff ran later than scheduled due to games earlier in the day being backed up on time as the day went on.
“It was a trap game, it was tough to mentally focus and play so late,” Greyhounds head coach Buck Harris said.
When it all settled, Jones County lost 59-57 as the Greyhounds were plagued by missed free throws and turnovers. There may be disappointment to go around about the loss, but the one thing that Harris was pleased with coming away from Saturday was Jones County’s dedication.
“They wanted to win; the effort was definitely there,” Harris said. “We want to play good teams early, and New Hampstead is a good team.
They return four starters.
They came in and knew who could hurt them and had scouted us and did some good things against them.”
It’ll be a time to play away from home this weekend for the Greyhounds when they head to Augusta for the Ricky Moore Invitational. Jones County plays Butler, ranked third in preseason rankings, on Friday before going against Laney on Saturday.
