HOOP HOUNDS
The environment and types of opponents were varied for the Greyhounds last week, but the end result was the same for Jones County with three wins in a row to run its record to 3-1.
It all began last Tuesday at home against Peach County. With five players scoring in double figures, the Greyhounds broke things open, winning 85-50 with JCHS draining a combined seven three-pointers. Most of them came from Jaleel Jordan, who got nine of his 14 points via the three-point shot. Jaden Stanley would end up leading the Greyhounds with 15 points with Kaden Douglas having 12.
“I thought we were locked in defensively and got going once we made some shots,” Greyhounds head coach Buck Harris said. “When we start making shots, we’re pretty good.”
Geo Wade’s 10 points gave Jones County five scorers in double figures, but the across-the-board effort went even further with the addition threepointers from Daniel Wodkins and Clark Fields on a night when every player on the scoresheet scored at least a point.
“It’s always good when can win and everyone gets a chance to participate and play, especially when the other guys go in there and make plays,” Harris said. “It’s always good. It builds team chemistry and brings the guys closer together.”
The momentum from Tuesday’s big win carried over at the Ricky Moore Invitational in Augusta, where the Greyhounds came away from the basketball-centric Augusta-Richmond County region with wins against Butler, 50-45, and 65-53 against Laney.
The run of games against teams from Augusta rolls on at the HypeSouth Invitational on Saturday at 2 p.m. against Glenn Hills head of next Tuesday’s region opener at Union Grove.
