Greyhounds to host Mary Persons outdoors Saturday
The NHL has the Outdoor Classic. The WCW had the Bash At The Beach. This Saturday, the Greyhounds wrestling program will have its own way of taking things outdoors.
Saturday, Nov. 25, won’t just mean the Main Street Gray Hometown Christmas Market and Tree Lighting. It will also call for a dual wrestling match between Jones County and Mary Persons near Butler Hall, right in the midst of all of the Christmas festivities. Wrestling is tentatively set to begin shortly after the tree is lit.
From there, a dual match will commence. In this format, one wrestler per weight class will compete, and points earned in each round will determine the winner.
“That’s really exciting, being able to wrestle outside in front of our community and be part of the Christmas festival that is already going on,” Greyhounds head coach Adam Gillhouse said. “Being able to expose people to wrestling that may not have been, that’ll be something our kids will be excited about.”
Wrestling outside won’t be new for the Greyhounds. Two years ago, JCHS took part in the Grapple on the Gridiron, a tournament held outdoors at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium in Valdosta. On Saturday, however, the sole focus will be two teams, and the Greyhounds will get the chance to wrestle in front of family and friends as well as perhaps others who may have little or no knowledge of the sport.
