Lady Hounds wear down opposition for two victories

LADY HOUNDS HOOPS

A pair of early-game takeovers helped the Lady Greyhounds win a pair of games last week to improve their record to 2-1.

A tight back-and-forth game against Peach County last Tuesday turned into a blowout with the Lady Greyhounds going on to win 60-42. The big margins of victory did not cease there. At the Girls Hype-South Invitational on Saturday in Warner Robins, JCHS easily rolled past North Atlanta 58-28, led by Amaris Ridgeway’s 13 points, eight rebounds and six steals.

One reason that JCHS was able to wear down the opposition last week? Depth and conditioning.

“I run our kids really hard, so I’m betting on that we’ll be in better shape than most,” Lady Greyhounds head coach ChoRhonda Gwaltney- Harris said. “That’s what we did (Tuesday). We kept pressing and running and eventually; we wore them down. (Peach) is a pretty good team and knocked down a lot of shots, but our depth and being in a little bit better share. That finished it out in the end.”

Ridgeway led the Lady Hounds against Peach County as well, this time scoring 14 points. Mya Anderson had 11 with Carlie Skinner sinking 16 points and draining two three-pointers as being able to have a deeper rotation of players allowed Jones County to prevail late.

“It’s definitely what we hang our hats on,” Gwaltney- Harris said. “We always want to be tougher or in better shape. We have to work harder and scrap more.”
