The Greyhounds will have at least one new coach on their coaching staff going into spring practice after Kevin Patterson accepted the head coaching job at nearby Baldwin.
Patterson’s hiring was announced last Tuesday by the Baldwin County Board of Education.
“Coach Patterson brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Baldwin,” Baldwin High School principal Jason Flanders said in a statement released last week. “We are excited to welcome Coach Patterson to Braves Nation.”
Patterson replaces Jesse Hicks, whose most recent stint at Baldwin saw him lead the Braves to the postseason in each of the seven seasons with a record of 40-36, including a region title and a quarterfinal appearance. His contract was not renewed after the 2023 season, and he has since been hired as head coach at East Laurens.
Patterson joined the Greyhounds last offseason as assistant head coach with his duties including coaching receivers and as well as strength and conditioning. Patterson is the second assistant to leave Jones County in as many offseasons for a head coach position.
Former defensive coordinator Robert Braucht departed last year for the head coach spot at North Springs.
Patterson’s departure also means that there will be a third coach to head up strength and conditioning in as many seasons. Prior to Patterson’s arrival, that role was held by Jay Floyd, now at Thomas County Central, on the staff of former JCHS head coach Justin Rogers.
