BOYS SOCCER
If the first few matches of a soccer season are for finding out who can score goals, then the Greyhounds learned a great deal in last Friday’s home opener against Central Macon. Led by a soccer version of the hat trick by Brendan Waters, Jones County easily topped the visiting Chargers 9-2. The nine goals scored by the Greyhounds are the most by them in a single contest since 2019.
JCHS peppered the Central end of the field early, leading 4-0 at halftime before adding five more goals in the second half. The Greyhounds, who had 15 shots on goal against the Chargers, also got two goals from Gerson Trejo and Yassine Errahimi with single goals from Jacob Watts, Will Utley and Thomas O’Connor.
Trejo, Errahimi and Brian Sorrell each had four shots on goal for JCHS, which wrapped up last week with a 1-1 record. Samuel Delcid saw a majority of the time in net against Central, giving up a goal in 64 minutes with a single goal also being allowed by Kaleb Story.
Sorrell had the lone goal for Jones County in last Tuesday’s loss to Jasper County.
The Greyhounds, who this week played Jackson on Tuesday and go to Upson Lee Thursday, host GMC Prep Feb. 20.
