Lady Hounds confident as region slate draws hear

GREYHOUNDS SOCCER

The Lady Greyhounds began this week with a steady build-up of momentum. Despite a loss to a Mary Persons program that regularly makes its way into the postseason, JCHS sees plenty to hang its hat on.

That could be well-timed going into this week, which concludes with the region opener on Friday at home against Locust Grove.

“I feel like we can challenge any team in our region,” Lady Greyhounds head coach Mikayla Coley said. “I feel like we still have some little things we need to take care of. We’re finally getting everybody healthy and back on the field, so hopefully we can build off of that.”

Another thing JCHS hopes to build off of? The creation of off-field chemistry from a roster that Coley concedes is still rather young.

“These kids love each other. They are starting to mesh now,” Coley said. “We are now trying to take that chemistry off the field and transfer that onto the field.”

Jones County began the week with a 4-2 record, the 7-1 road loss to the Bulldogs on Friday ending a four-game winning streak with Daisy Blanton getting the lone JCHS goal.

Even in the loss, Coley saw plenty of positives in playing a team such as Mary Persons.

“That’s why I like playing teams like Mary Persons. It magnifies what we need to work on. Sometimes when you play teams that are not as strong as others, you can kind of get away with stuff,” Coley said. “Mary Persons is similar to some teams in our region where you can’t get away with certain things.”

That string of wins spanned to four with last Wednesday’s breezy 8-0 win against GMC Prep. That victory came in part due to offensive pressure from Jones County. Its 19 shots on goal netted four goals in the first half. The Lady Hounds kept the heat cranked up the rest of the way, adding four more in the second half.
