The string of region matches officially started for the Greyhounds on Friday as Eagles Landing came to town. Facing a team averaging five goals per game, Jones County dug its heels in even after the Golden Eagles got on the board within a few minutes and led 3-0 at halftime.
The Greyhounds would fall 6-1 to unbeaten Eagles Landing. In the midst of that loss, however, there was one thing that was evident on the Jones County side – effort.
“I’m proud of their effort. There’s some things that we have to come back and fix,” Greyhounds head coach Nathan Robertson said.
“Other than that, I think we’ll be alright. We have a good group of kids, and their will to get better, that’ll get us there.”
That was evident all the way down to the final seconds at Greyhound Field. During a night in which both teams played through the rain, Jones County avoided being shutout as an offensive push in the final seconds resulted in a goal by Brendan Waters.
Jones County (1-6-1), which played Tuesday at Union Grove, hosts Ola Friday and plays next Tuesday at Dutchtown.
