Jones County native Shareez Hamm’s storied track and field career for the Academy of Art gained another accolade last week with him being named a West Region Indoor Track Athlete of the Year by the USTFCCA (U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association).
The recognition for Hamm comes after missing the NCAA Division II Indoor Nationals 400-meter hurdles finals by .02 seconds and the 4x400 relay team of which he is a part overcoming adversity to finish seventh.
The end of Hamm’s indoor career comes alongside Hamm’s recent showing at the Hornet Invitational in Sacramento, Calif., where he was part of a 4x400 relay team that set the second-fastest time in program history in addition to Hamm notching a time of 51.65 seconds in the 400-meter hurdles, a performance placing him within the top two in the country.
