–George Sheffield “behold, thy King cometh unto thee: He is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon a donkey, and upon a colt the foal of a donkey” (Zech 9:9) The crowd was exuberantly excited, thronging the Man. The Romans watched cautiously, studying both Him and the crowd. They were always on the lookout for a revolt against Roman authority, but they saw no weapons or any threat. Just a peasant Jew riding on a donkey. For some 2 miles, Jesus rode the donkey as the multitudes pressed in on Him shouting “Hosanna; Blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord” while they waved palm branches and spread their garments across His path.
What Rome didn’t understand was that Jesus was bringing a revolution to bear. A spiritual revolution. He was riding into town to face off with the tyrants Satan, Sin, and Death. And the only weapon He would use was His blood (Mt 26:28). By His blood He would defeat His foes and the enemies of mankind. And the cross would become His standard, His emblem of victory. Jesus, “the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world.” (Jn 2:29). Have you let Jesus take away your sins in your world?
