Real Life

“So the wall was finished in the twenty and fifth day of the month Elul, in fifty and two days.” (Neh 6:15) God commissioned Nehemiah to rebuild the wall around Jerusalem that had been torn down nearly 70 years before. The city had been left desolate and unprotected, and God now wanted a wall rebuilt for protection and security. Nehemiah and the people rebuilt the wall, even though their neighboring enemies tried to prevent the work. God’s enemies hate His walls.

While we live on this earthly plain, we also need to have a wall about our lives. A spiritual wall provides strength and protection from our enemy the Devil. Of course he detests our building of a wall and does his worst to prevent us from building it because a wall prohibits him from influencing and harming our lives.

God, through His Holy Spirit, has given us the resources needed to build and maintain our walls: faith, prayer, Bible study, and godly service. Remember, your enemy the Devil is always seeking a breach. A strong wall will protect you from any satanic attack and ungodly influence.

Now this wall is not to isolate us from others because Jesus commanded us to go forth and share His gospel (Mk 16:15). It is to protect us from God’s adversaries and to strengthen our walk with Jesus. And in the end, God’s kingdom will grow and He will be glorified in our lives.
