Gray-8-Skate Family Entertainment Center has started up their summer camp and is ready for families to join the world of skate and fun.
Joel Shiver, the owner of Gray-8-Skate Family Entertainment Center, said he’s excited for everything happening this summer and the things he has planned throughout the year. He said there is always something going on at the facility.
“Currently we are doing summer camp and it’s 11 weeks long. We are doing summer camp from the day school lets out until the day school is back in session,” he said. “We do a field trip each week, summer camp is 7 a.m. through 6 p.m., and we have two different options. We have a drop off option or a weekly rate option.”
He said they offer sibling discounts for summer camp for families with more than one child who needs to attend. He said lunch is extra, but they get snacks. He said the plus side to summer camp with Gray-8-Skate is the skate games, visitors, a STEM lesson, and the field trips. He said summer camp is for children ages five to 12 years old.
“Our summer camp gives kids something to do and gets them out of the house, plus someone is here to keep an eye on them. I’m always excited to see where our summer camp goes. So far we already have 80 sign ups, so it’s cool to see it grow and see new families try the camp out,” Shiver said.
The owner said Gray-8-Skate is open every Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m., every Thursday from 1 to 5 p.m., Friday from 6 to 10 p.m., Saturday from 12 to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 1 to 7 p.m. He said they will be closed every Sunday in July.
“We are going to have a Christmas in July backto- school supply drive. We will have skating, Santa, the playground, arcade, and more,” he said. “We will have more information about that when it’s closer to time. It’s going to be a big thing. Bring school supplies and you skate for free.”
He said all the school supplies from that event will be donated to Gray Community Church. This event will be July 20, and he hopes people will donate. He said he has always wanted to do a Christmas in July event.
Shiver said when school starts back, he hopes they can do an after school camp, but it will depend on the needs of the community. He said the goal is to continue to grow Gray-8-Skate and make a difference in the community.
“We have a lot of stuff coming up that we are excited about. We are growing up, expanding and hoping to make changes here for the better,” Shiver said. “We want to be able to reach more people outside of Jones County as we grow.”
