–George Sheffield “God created man” (Gen 1:27) Jesus created man. Wait a second. The Bible says God created man. Who do you think Jesus is? He is God. Second person of the Trinity. One of three of the Godhead. John tells us in Jn 1:1 that Jesus, the Word, was God. And that “all things were made by Him”--Jn 1:3.
Gen 1:26 says “God said Let us make man in our image”. The Hebrew word for God here is Elhoim. It’s a plural word. More than one. It’s the Trinity--the Father, the Son, the Holy Spirit. And the words “us” and “our” are also a reference to the Trinity. In Gen 2:7, in the detailed account of man’s creation, it says “And the LORD God formed man out of the dust.” God there is also Elohim, the Trinity.
Ok, so Jesus made man. What of it? Well Jesus, Who made man, has come to redeem what He made. We were created in His image but sin has corrupted that image. So Jesus came to re-create that image in us through the new birth. Rom 8:29 tells us, that we as Christians, are being conformed to the image of Jesus.
Jesus created us. And Jesus re-creates us when we believe on Him. We can’t enter Heaven in the image of sin. We enter in the image of the Son.
