Bridging Monticello, a non-profit civic group, has a week of fun-filled activities planned for April 12-19, beginning this Saturday with the Spring Tour of Homes, including the Monticello Garden Club’s annual flower show, and ending with a festival April 19 in downtown Monticello.
Between the two Saturdays, each day will feature special activities or events, beginning Sunday, April 13 when everyone is invited to enjoy a picnic meal on the Monticello Square and enjoy lunch with friends and family. Pack something from home, or purchase lunch and eat on the square.
Monday, April 14 kicks off the week-long virtual scavenger hunt. Clues will be posted on Facebook at BridgingMonticelloGA. Just visit online and follow the group and be prepared to search.
Tuesday, April 15 brings “Tasty Tuesday,” when local restaurants will offer specials, and everyone can enjoy a meal out that day.
A fashion show featuring local retailers is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, April 17, at the Visitors’ Center, on the Square in Monticello. Included in the fashion show will be a headwear contest, in which organizations and businesses are encouraged to seize the opportunity to highlight themselves.
Music Bingo will be offered Friday, April 18 in the city courtyard behind City Hall.
The week will culminate with the Bridging Monticello Jubilee April 19, kicked off that morning with a 5K run/walk, featuring entertainment host DJ Scottie Spence and Just4Fun Radio, plus a hot dog eating contest, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., plenty of vendors on the Square and at Thomas Persons Hall. The Jubilee also provides the opportunity for locals to showcase their talents, and for Monticello to shine.
Tickets for the tour of homes on Saturday, April 12 are available now for $25 each at The Monticello News (247 W.
Washington St.), the Monticello- Jasper County Chamber of Commerce and the Shoppes of Monticello, both on the Square, or online at Eventbrite (small convenience fee involved).
A full tour brochure will be available to all ticket holders, and locations include five historic homes, three churches, and one business. From Thomas Persons Hall, those taking the home tour may walk or drive down College Street to a house on that road, then cross over to Greene Street.
