A handful of Jones County track and field athletes were able to put forth some of their best showings when it mattered in a big way at Saturday’s sectional meet at Mundy’s Mill.
As a result, a total of six Greyhounds and Lady Greyhounds will compete in the GHSA Class AAAA state meet this weekend at East Jackson High School in Jefferson. Addison Robinson qualified for state in both the 1600 and 3200 meter run with Jaivon Solomon being a state qualifier in the triple jump. In addition, Ian Borsahole, Clay Lacy, Andrew Marshall and Tyler Marshall qualified on the 4x800 relay team.
Robinson put herself in good seeding position going into the state meet thanks for what she was able to do on Saturday. Not only did she finish fourth in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:16.00, but her time of 11:33.05 was good for third in the 3200 meters. The state meet won’t be new territory for Robinson after she took fourth in last year’s 3200 meters.
Robinson won’t be the only one with state meet experience. After taking sixth in last year’s triple jump, Solomon is back again, having taken second in the event at sectionals at 46-3.
The Greyhounds also sail into the state meet in the 4x800 relay following a finish of third in sectionals. A time of 8:16.91 came as the run was made by Ian Borsahole, Clay Lacy, Tyler Marshall and Andrew Marshall.
The triple jump is scheduled for Friday’s 1:30 p.m. session at the state meet with the 4x800 relay tentatively set for later that day at 5:40 p.m. with the 1600 meters at 8:40 p.m. Saturday’s girls 3200 meters s slated for approximately 4:50 p.m.
