The following information is gleaned from incident reports, which are public record, from the Jones County Sheriff’s Department and Gray Police Department May 9-11, 2025.
May 9
Speeding, no insurance and suspended license
Lieutenant Carr was running Lidar on Joycliff Road when he noticed a vehicle traveling towards him at a high rate of speed. Carr used the department ProLaser and clocked the vehicle traveling at 51 MPH in a 35-MPH speed zone. Carr pulled out behind the vehicle activating his blue lights and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle.
The lieutenant made contact with the male driver and advised him the reason for the stop. The male driver identified himself as the registered owner of the vehicle and apologized to Carr stating he was not aware of the speed limit change. The male also advised Carr that he did not have insurance on the vehicle and that it had been several months since he had active insurance.
Dispatch also alerted Carr that the male subject had a suspended license due to child support but no serve date. At that time, Carr secured the male driver in handcuffs and transported him to the Jones County LEC. Once at the LEC, Carr issued the male citations for speeding, no insurance and suspended registration. A written warning was given for the suspended license and the male was turned over to jail staff for booking.

Meth in her purse
Sgt. Walker conducted a traffic stop on Shurling Drive in reference to a vehicle with no insurance. Walker made contact with the female driver and female passenger. The female driver advised Walker that she paid her insurance last month but could not provide him with proof. Walker then checked the DDS GA system, and it came back to show that the insurance had not been paid for the entire month of April and was not active.
The female driver was placed under arrest. Walker conducted an inventory search of the vehicle and during the search, located a small plastic bag of methamphetamine in the female driver’s purse. The vehicle was towed, and the female passenger was released without incident. The female driver was transported to the Jones County LEC where she was charged with possession of methamphetamine and no insurance.
DUI refusal/trying to set fire in LEC holding cell
Deputy Langston was monitoring traffic on GA Hwy. 49 when he observed a vehicle turn right on Pamela Drive, then turn left of Pecan Drive in an attempt to avoid him. Langston followed the vehicle to Chapman Road where the driver stopped at the stop sign near Wells Park Drive. Langston observed the driver acting as if she was going to turn right at the stop sign and go towards the bridge, but the driver made a U turn in the direction to continue on Chapman Road. The female driver then placed her vehicle in park in the middle of the intersection. The female driver got out of the vehicle and walked to the front passenger side of the vehicle and leaned over causing Langston to lose sight of her for a moment. The deputy ran the tag number on the vehicle through the NCIC system and it came back to show the registered owner had a suspended license. Langston positioned his patrol vehicle behind the female’s car and saw her return to the driver’s seat. At that time, the deputy conducted a traffic stop for the female parking in the intersection. When Langston approached the female driver, he observed a glass bottle of Tito’s Vodka between the driver’s seat and the door.
The deputy then asked the female if she had been drinking to which she stated she had not. Langston then asked the female driver for her license, and she advised that she did not have it but would give him her name and date of birth. Langston ran the name and date of birth the female driver gave him, and he noticed that the information the female provided was not correct and the name the female gave shows that person wears corrective lenses. The deputy returned to the female and asked her if she wears glasses or contacts and the female stated she does not. Based on the information the female driver gave the deputy it was apparent she was lying about her identity. Langston then asked the female if she would be willing to take a Standardized Field Sobriety test and the female advised she would.
After the test was concluded, Langston determined that the female was not able to drive, placed her in handcuffs and placed her under arrest for DUI.
Langston read the female driver her Georgia Implied Consent for suspects aged 21 or over and requested blood.
The female agreed to providing a blood sample and was transported to the Jones County LEC. Upon arrival at the jail, the female had slipped the left wrist restraint off and was holding it with her right hand as if it were a weapon.
Sgt. Walker then came to the sally port and was able to calm the female down enough to exit Langston’s patrol vehicle and took the female to the booking area where she was turned over to jail staff for processing. When the nurse arrived on scene for the blood draw, the female refused to give the sample and then urinated on the floor. The female was issued citations for suspended license, DUI refusal, open container, no license on person, improper parking in the roadway and a warrant for providing a false name and date of birth. Due to the actions of the female, she was not strip searched or dressed out in an inmate uniform and was placed in a holding cell outside of Dispatch until she could calm down. It was then noticed that the female had a lighter and was attempting to start a fire in the holding cell. Sgt.
Walker and Deputy Langston were able to retrieve the lighter before the female caused serious fire or damage. Shortly after the incident, Detention officer Brown and Langston noticed that the female was ripping her dress into pieces but was only damaging her property in the process. After the officers left the holding cell, Langston noticed a strip of fabric wrapped around a metal pole in the cell. Based on the deputy’s experience he felt the female’s next step was to attempt to hang herself by her neck. Officer Brown and Langston entered the cell and observed the female attempting to tie the loose end around her as Langston had suspected. After a brief scuffle, the officers were able to remove the garment from the cell.
