SFC Glenn D. Towles is the local veteran of the week. He retired Aug. 1, 2000, after serving 20 faithful years in the U.S.
Army. His duty assignments included Fort McClellan, Al.; Fort Lee, VA; Fort Campbell, KY; Fort Richardson, AK; Hunter Army Airfield; Savannah, GA; Fulda, Germany; and Fort Riley, KS.
SFC Towles served as the Louisville, KY recruiting station commander and his last assignment was as the recruiting station commander of the Macon Recruiting Company. He served in Operation Desert Storm where he earned the Bronze Star Medal as well as the following other service awards during his career: Army Accommodation Medal (5), Army Achievement Medal (5), Good Conduct Medal (6), Kuwait/Saudi Liberation Medal, Army Service Medal (3), and the Drivers Badge with Wheel. SFC Towles is currently an Army JROTC instructor at Central High School in Bibb County, where he has been employed for the last 20 years. Prior Army JROTC experience included 10 years instructing at Northeast High School. SFC Towles is the son of Curtis and Ruby Towles of Gray.
