Destin Wayne Smith, 32, of Gray, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2022. Visitation was held Saturday, June 11, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Hart’s Jones County Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Morris Bank, Jase and Alayna Smith College Fund, PO Box 2350, Gray, GA 31032.

Destin was a 2008 Jones County graduate. He was a family man that loved his children above all. He was a hard worker and was a jack of all trades. He gave his all to everything. He loved mudding and fishing, especially fishing at his “second home”, Apalachicola, Florida, where he loved to stay at the Sportsman Lodge.

Destin loved his job at Pool Service by Jeff and working with Jeff and Holly Stewart. He considered them and the employees as his second family.

Destin was preceded in death by his grandfather Michael Smith, sisterin-law, Casie Freeman, and grandparents, Danny and Linda Williams.

Destin is survived by his wife, Ashley Smith of Gray; children, Jase Smith and Alayna Smith of Gray; mother, Crystal Skomp (Byron) of King, North Carolina; father, Darrell Smith (Tracy) of Dry Branch, Georgia; maternal grandparents, Susan Johnson (Wayne) of Germanton, North Carolina; paternal grandmother, Janice Smith of Gray; paternal grandfather, Robert Lewis (Susan) of Matoaca, Virginia; sisters, Katy Wilson (Chris) of Jeffersonville, Georgia and Anna Wright of Byron, Georgia; brother, Lane Williams of King, North Carolina, Matthew Smith of Macon, Georgia; brothers-in-law, B.J. Hitchcock and Kendall McNeal (Christina); sisters-in-law, Kaylee McNeal (Alex) and Kenadie Hitchcock; stepbrother, Wesley Watson; stepsister, Linsey Watson; father-in-law, William Hitchcock (Allyson) of Gray; sister-in-law, Brooke Hudson (Josh) of Gray; uncle, Mike Smith (Tonya) of Gray; aunt, Michell Williams of Gray; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and best friends, Marc and Katie Moore.
