Samuel Otis Simmons, Jr., age 73, of Twiggs County, Georgia, passed away on Monday, Oct. 6, 2025. Born on July 30, 1952, in Macon, Georgia, to the late Otis Simmons and Navonia Smith Simmons, Samuel spent his entire life in Twiggs County—a place he was proud to call home.
Samuel was a hardworking and talented man. He served as a foreman for Hamlin Sheet Metal and Green Associates, where his leadership and dedication earned the respect of his coworkers. Outside of his professional life, Samuel was a gifted mechanic who loved working on cars—it was truly his passion. He could fix just about anything and found joy in every moment spent under the hood.
He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life—staying close to home, listening to country music, watching Gunsmoke, and enjoying a cigarette while swapping stories that always made people laugh. He was funny, friendly, wise, and creative, with a heart full of love for his family.
His determination and sense of humor made him someone everyone enjoyed being around.
He was preceded in death by his ex-wife, Carolyn D. Simmons; his parents, Otis and Navonia Simmons; and two nephews, Marty and Thomas.
Samuel is survived by his children, Stephanie S. Elkins (Chris), Samuel O. Simmons (Latasha), and James M. Simmons; grandchildren, Dustin B. Simmons (Brittany), Sierra E. Bleskachek (Adam), Victor W.
Parsons (Ashley), Summer L. Elkins (Mihkael), Nicholas S.
Elkins, Breanna Hopper, Landon Simmons, Gracie Simmons (Cayden), and Micah Simmons; and great-grandchildren, Nevaeh A. Simmons, Kolton L. Simmons, Alona G. Simmons, Keelyn B. Simmons, and Victor W. Parsons, Jr. He is also survived by his five sisters and nieces and nephews A visitation was held on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Gray Memorial Chapel and Crematory, 4378 Gray Highway, Gray, Georgia 31032. A funeral service followed at 2:00 p.m. Burial took place at Barnes-Hinson Family Cemetery.
Samuel will be remembered for his warmth, humor, work ethic, and love for family—traits that will continue to live on through all who knew and loved him.
