Bond leads Pirates in rushing again in loss
Despite Javious Bond’s teamleading 72 yards on seven carries, East Carolina dropped its conference opener to Rice 24-17 on Saturday. Bond’s longest rush of the day was 39 yards in a game that also saw him register a tackle and returned three kickoffs for 66 yards. Bond has now led ECU in rushing the last two games in a row. The Pirates host SMU on Saturday.
Jontavis Robertson and Duke lost a heartbreaker in primetime on Saturday as No. 11 Notre Dame went ahead with 0:31 to play to win 21-14. Robertson was targeted once in the loss for Duke, which is off this week before hosting NC State on Oct. 14 Teldrick Ross was among MTSU’s leading tacklers, registering five in a 31-10 loss to Western Kentucky to begin conference play. The Blue Raiders, who continued conference play this past Wednesday against Jacksonville State, host Louisiana Tech Oct. 10.
