Howard, Lady Dawgs hosting NCAA Regional
Despite an upset loss to South Carolina in the SEC Tournament, the Lady Bulldogs will host an NCAA Regional this weekend at Jack Turner Stadium in Athens. Georgia’s roster will include former Lady Greyhounds pitcher Destin Howard, who has provided key backfill depth for Georgia this season.
Georgia is the 14th overall seed nationally and would advance to play the winner of the regional hosted by Florida State should it emerge from its own regional. The Lady Bulldogs play NC Central at 4:30 p.m. Friday with the regional’s other two teams being Virginia Tech and Boston University. Georgia’s game on Friday will be on ESPN+.
Georgia enters the tournament with a 39-13 overall record and 16-7 in SEC play, earning them a second-place finish in the conference, the Lady Dawgs’ best conference finish since 2018.
Brevard’s historic season keyed by Thompson
The 2023 baseball season at Brevard College came to an end with former Greyhound pitcher Jacob Thompson helping the Tornadoes to 22 wins, their second season in a row with 20 or more wins.
Thompson’s 5-2 record tied him for the team lead in wins, and his 63 innings pitched and 3.71 ERA also rated him second on the team in both categories.
