Hamm fourth in at D2 Outdoor Nationals
Shareez Hamm, a 2016 graduate of Jones County, gave the Academy of Art track & field team a finish of fourth in the 400-meter hurdles at Saturday’s NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships in Pueblo, Colo.
A junior, Hamm’s run gave ART U a ninth-place finish as a team in the final meet of the season.
Hamm’s time of 50.38 was a personal best, and he also owns the secondbest time in school history for the 400 meters.
Howard, Lady Dawgs end season in Super Regionals
Former JCHS standout Destin Howard’s first season as a Lady Bulldog came to an end last weekend as Georgia, seeded 14th nationally, was swept by third-seed Florida State by scores of 8-1 and 4-2. The Lady Dawgs rallied late in the second game, putting the tying runs in scoring position before flying out to end the game.
Georgia finished the season among the top 16 teams nationally with a record of 42-15. Howard is one of five pitchers set to return next season for the Lady Bulldogs. Howard appeared in 10 games for Georgia this year, going 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA.
