Jacob Thompson has been one of the most-used starting pitchers for Brevard College. His seven starts rate for a tie for second on the Tornadoes roster, and he is 2-1 on the year coming out of last weekend with 22 strikeouts. Thompson went the distance to get the win in Friday’s win against Methodist, giving up three runs, two of which were earned, and six hits.
Brevard plays this weekend at Greensboro.
Destin Howard has made the most of her time in the pitcher’s circle in Athens. In seven total appearances, she is 7-1 with a 0.95 ERA. She pitched two innings in relief last week against Mercer, giving up a run and two hits in finishing out an 8-1 win.
Georgia plays this weekend at Kentucky and came away from the weekend 31-8 overall and 7-5 in SEC play, Georgia College & State is 23-13 overall and 14-4 in the Peach Belt Conference, thanks to spot contributions of Keagan Baxter and Aiden Payne. In Saturday’s second game of a doubleheader, Payne had two RBIs in a 23-4 win against Claflin. Payne and Baxter have come off the bench in key spots for the Bobcats, appearing in a total of 12 games. GCSU hosts Lander this weekend.
Both Dawson Harris and Brody Gordon have seen time on the pitching mound for Gordon State. Harris is 1-1 on the season while Gordon has also seen time on the mound, starting four games and having eight pitching appearances. Both rank in the top five on the season in average strikeouts per nine innings.
Gordon State, 22-16 overall and 8-4 in conference play after last weekend, plays this weekend at Andrew College.
For Piedmont University in women’s golf, Keegan Goins has posted her best overall tournament showing two straight times out, having a 23-over-par score in the Music City Shootout and the Savannah Invitational last month. She tied for 16th overall in the former of those two tournaments, her best finish on the board of the year.
