Boys 10-game win streak snapped by Dutchtown

GREYHOUND HOOPS

A rough night from the opposing rim and backboards resulted in something that had not happened for 10 games to the Greyhounds Friday.

In a matchup of the region’s top two teams in Hampton, it was Dutchtown claiming the upper hand, winning 63-37 to drop Jones County’s record to 15-3 overall and 5-1 in the region. That knotted the Greyhounds and Bulldogs in a tie for first in the region at the halfway point of region play. Jones County hosts Union Grove on Friday.

Dutchtown gained the upper hand early and never let go of it, leading 25-10 early in the second and 55-29 in the initial stages of the fourth quarter.

The Greyhounds, a team that has gotten a jolt from their perimeter shooting, ran into pitfalls Friday, being held to 23 percent from the field and 12 percent from three-point range. That combined with being out-rebounded 42-23 added up to the first region loss of the season for JCHS.

The Greyhounds won’t have to stew over their win streak being snapped for long. They’ll host Union Grove on Friday. JCHS won the first meeting 58-54 against a Wolverines team eager to make a big move in the standings after starting this week with a 2-4 record, one game behind fourth-place Warner Robins. After this Friday, the Greyhounds have three road games in a row at Locust Grove Jan. 19 and Eagles Landing Jan. 23 and at Warner Robins on Jan. 26.
