The JCHS gymnasium won’t be the only thing new when the basketball season arrives later this year.
The boys basketball team will also have a new head coach this fall, as the job opening has been posted online after last year’s head coach Willie Reese informed the school of his intention to go elsewhere following the current school year, according to Jones County athletic director Charles David.
The Greyhounds went 7-18 last year but did gain momentum in the second half of the season, winning three out of five games late.
Now, the job is to align a new head coach for the Greyhounds.
“We posted the job, so hopefully we can have this done by May 1,” David said. “That’s not a cutoff date, but we are already pretty late in the going, so we’d like to get this done.”
David, who previously coached basketball himself at JCHS, sees plenty of upsides for anyone considering coming to JCHS.
“I was a varsity basketball coach here for six years. We have the talent, we have the community support, we are a one-county system,” David said. “You’re not fighting other schools in the system for talent, and you have two feeder schools. So you have a good idea of what you have.”
