If Jones County aims to assert itself within the softball region, it won’t have to wait long to make some noise.
The Lady Hounds, who open the season Aug. 8 at Houston County and open at home Aug. 11 against Dodge County, open region play with two of their first three region games against teams that are historically at the forefront of the region. On Aug. 23, Jones County goes to an Ola team that has advanced to the second round of the state playoffs the past two years with a home against Locust Grove, a secondround team two years ago and state champions in 2019.
Not only that, but Ace Charter, the undefeated GHSA Class A champions last year, are on the schedule this year with matchups set for Aug. 29 in Macon and Aug. 31 in Gray.
The second matchups with Ola and Locust Grove, meanwhile, will be Sept. 8 at Locust Grove and Sept. 15 at home against Ola.
Also mixed in among schedule highlights will be Harlem and West Laurens on Sept. 10 at GCSU with Loganville, Grayson and Commerce set for Sept. 30 to Oct. 1 in the Ram Classic at Grayson.
That tourney will be a late-season tune-up, preceding the region finales on Oct. 4 and 6 at home against Warner Robins and Oct. 6 at Union Grove.
