The springtime is track and field season for a good part of Jones County’s cross country runners that have proven themselves to be the class of the region and beyond.
So, it should come as no surprise that Saturday’s Middle Georgia Distance Carnival in Warner Robins saw multiple JCHS runners to top of the boards, including first place finishes in both the boys and girls distance medley events as well as 4x800 relays.
It hardly stopped there. In the girls 800-meter run, Camryn Wommack’s run of 2:38.32 was good for second ahead of 2:44.44 and 2:49.69 showings by Tanner Watts and Jordan Norman-Brown as they took third and fourth.
In the girls 1,600 meters, Macie White finished second with a time of 6:30.10 and Catelen Myers was third with a run of 6:35.35.
JCHS took first and second in the 4x800. The team of Isabella Sanchez, Wommack, Addison Robinson and Lilly Palmer was first in front of the group of Watts, White, Norman-Brown and Lilly Tanner.
In the 800-meter open event, Emma Hammond, Saylor Bell and Allie Waters were first, third and fifth while in the 1600 meters open, Makenzie Snook was first and Waters took third.
Shaun Williams, Clay Lacy and Grady Newby took second, third and fifth in the boys 800 meters with times of 2:02.61, 2:04.46 and 2:06.35 while in the 3200 meters, Rylan Fuller’s 11:08.91 was good for fourth.
The relay team of Luke Thornton, Tyler Marshall, Andrew Marshall and Williams ran a 8:33.55 to win the 4x800 relay in addition to the Greyhounds winning first in the distance medley.
