SOFTBALL
After beginning the season in early May on the parks and recreation fields of Jones County, the church league softball season came to a conclusion on Friday at Morris Bank Recreational Complex.
The top four teams took the field in two separate semifinal games with Gray Methodist and Greenwood Baptist advancing over Real Life Church and Gray Community Church.
Then, Mother Nature intervened. A brief storm dumped a deluge of water on the field, calling off the firstplace and third-place games. According to Jones County Parks & Recreation Director Bert Rosenberger, both Gray Methodist and Greenwood opted to be declared co-champions in lieu of rescheduling.
Parks & rec softball is not done for the summer, however. The women’s Grayberry Softball League has games scheduled for the regular season through July 19 with matchups scheduled for multiple times each week.
