The Greyhounds wrapped up last week with Cedar Shoals and Jefferson in town for two days of organized team activities (OTAs). The next time JCHS sees outside competition will be Aug. 12 in a home scrimmage against Buford prior to the season opener Nov. 20 against Northside.
The Hounds acclimation period began at the start of this week with the first official day of practice being Aug. 1.
In facing both teams, the Greyhounds, the three-time defending region champions, got a varied look at a pair of teams that are no strangers to postseason appearances. Against Cedar Shoals, for example, the Jaguars presented some offensive looks that included having to account for a quarterback who was both mobile and could throw, something that JCHS will likely encounter this season, especially with the advent of run-pass-option offensive schemes. Against Jefferson, the Dragons showed some looks that should help prepare for facing run-heavy teams in the upcoming season as Jefferson rushed for an average of 289 yards per game while averaging just 22 passing yards a game.
With both the first-team units and other groups rotating in and out, the Greyhound coaching staff was able to get a stronger look at not only what proven talent such as Zion Ragins and Javious Bond on offense can do, but defensively as well where a group led by Chandler Harris, Bond and Conner Bass that battled youth and injuries last season also got differing schemes to go against in going up against the Jaguars and Dragons.
