Greyhounds looking ahead as offseason continues

BOYS SUMMER HOOPS

After the Greyhounds’ historic run to the state semifinals last season, the next step in looking forward is well underway during summer workouts.

On a roster that’ll be without the graduated Daethan Harris and Jaylen Sanford, a wealth of experience was gained last month with an average of about 13 to 16 players being part of workouts, team camps and other events.

“We can’t look behind on what we did, we have to get better. You’ve made a name for yourself, so people will expect you to bring it,” Greyhounds head coach Buck Harris said. “That’s the theme for us this year, to work. We have to put the work in on the court, in the weight room and in the classroom. We can’t have any deficiencies anywhere from the first guy to the last guy. Everyone is going to have to put the work in for us to sustain where we are.”

From a team standpoint, June is a heavier month with July primarily being set for players to workout on their own schedules, and Harris says that he’s opening the gym for players needing to get work in during a month that’s usually used by players from AAU competition or family vacations.

The Greyhounds are following up a month of June where their camp rotation included Mercer, Georgia Southern’s FCA camp and the Georgia High School camp.

“The kids got a chance to shoot around and play a lot,” Harris said.

That’s key for JCHS, who along with a pair of returning seniors will be looking to Rudy Bowden to play a larger role in addition to two more coming up from the JV ranks.

“They got time on the court to see what it’s about and what it takes off the court,” Harris said.
