Growth continues for Hounds entering region slate

GREYHOUNDS SOCCER

Amid a transition, the Greyhounds remain upbeat going into Friday’s region opener.

There have been gains so far for Jones County, 1-3-1 so far. That comes in the wake of a pair of stern tests against postseason regulars last week, GMC Prep and Mary Persons in losses of 7-0 and 9-0.

Still, there is optimism. Much of that, head coach Nathan Robertson says, has to do with the Greyhounds’ senior leaders who both have experience and will also go into region play for the last time by in their Greyhound soccer careers.

Jones County, which played Tuesday at Peach County and Wednesday at Ace Charter, hosts Locust Grove Friday and Eagles Landing next Friday. Overall, Jones County’s next six matches will be against region teams with the others at home being March 15 against Ola and March 22 against Warner Robins.

“We have a decent group of seniors. They look like they’ll step up for us,” Robertson said.

There’s been on-field help via experience from another angle, too. Despite not being as seasoned with JCHS, freshman Jacob Watts has also been key on the field, according to Robertson.

“He knows the game so he can step up more and tell them what to do,” Robertson said. “He has a really good feel for what’s going on.”
