Jones County’s gymnastics team is unique in that it practices outside of Jones County. That said, they’ll begin the season competing in a familiar setting.

The Gym Hounds, who practice at Elite Gymnastics near Milledgeville, open the season on Saturday when they’ll serve as the host team in their season-opening meet. Of the six meets that are scheduled for the 2024 season, three will be at Elite Gymnastics.

Saturday is the first of those, and it will start a day full of gymnastics with competition from the varsity, JV and middle schools. Six varsity teams and four JV squads are tentatively set to compete with three middle school entrants as well. Saturday’s varsity and JV competition is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. with middle school to follow at 1 p.m.

Jones County’s key losses from last year include Mary Michael Bunn and Kennedie Dyer for a team that a season ago was paced by Caroline Barfield, Cayl Milner, Autumn Clark, Kaylee Wilson, Alexa Johnson, Kiersten Foreman, Kinley Babb, Maleya Burden and Anna Mitchell.
