Hounds hope to harness offensive momentum

Adverse weather threw a wrench into the start of region play for the Greyhounds last week. Even so, Jones County will go into an adjusted region schedule looking to harness the play that got its offense back on track last week.

The Greyhounds dropped a one-goal loss last Wednesday at Ace Charter 3-2 as the Gryphons broke a 2-2 tie with a secondhalf goal.

“It doesn’t affect us too bad.

We wanted to play, but weather obviously prevented that,” Greyhounds head coach Nathan Robertson said. “It gives us time to work on stuff and some little things.”

That deadlock at the midpoint came as JCHS got goals from Brian Sorrell and a penalty kick score by way of Brendan Waters. Those two goals by the Greyhounds were their most since five contests ago against Central. “That definitely gives us confidence. I told them afterwards, ‘losing stinks; weather, it’s 10-0 or 5-1. I think we saw some things that we can build on.”

The game against Locust Grove has been rescheduled for March 23 and will now be the final region match of the season for Jones County. The Greyhounds (1-5-1) will play Eagles Landing at home Friday with their first road match March 12 at Union Grove prior to hosting Ola March 15.
