Stockbridge managed to slow Jones County down for about a quarter’s worth of time Monday night to end the first day of the Morris Bank Holiday Tournament. That phase didn’t last much longer.
The Greyhounds’ guard play and depth wore down the Tigers, former region foes of Jones County, in a 83-53 win, with JCHS having a 17-point scoring edge in the game’s middle two quarters to open the tournament with a win.
Stockbridge was lit up by the shooting touch of Jaylen Sanford and his 21 points, even coming in a second quarter in which Jones County outscored Stockbridge 19-8. Sanford had plenty of help, too.
Jaden Stanley poured in 13 points, and Kaden Douglas had 11.
Adding to that was Judd Anderson’s tenacious play in the paint on both ends of the floor. Not only did he have 14 points, but his forceful layup in the fourth quarter, slamming on the rim as he laid the ball in, energized the home crowd even more.
Monday’s victory was the fourth win in five games for Jones County, which beat Ola 81-50 last Friday as five players scored in double figures, led by Sanford and Daethan Harris with 17, Anderson with 14 points and 11 boards, Stanley with 15 and Douglas having 10.
