BOYS HOOPS
From this point forward, the bulk of the Greyhounds games will carry more weight. That’s because, for the most part, they will be against region opponents.
Jones County, which began region play on Tuesday at Union Grove, hosts Houston County Friday and plays Saturday at Northside. It will then host Warner Robins next Tuesday, Northside Dec. 7 and Locust Grove Dec. 8.
One of the final throes of non-region play took place Saturday in Warner Robins when JCHS was again part of the HypeSouth Hardwood Invitational. The Greyhounds improved to 4-1 with a 79-43 win against Glenn Hills. As has been typical, the Greyhounds’ top-three scorers were Jaleel Jordan, Jaden Stanley and Kaden Douglas. Jordan had 16 points, three rebounds and a pair of steals with Stanley’s 16 points being accompanied by three steals. Douglas scored 15 points and had three rebounds, two steals and two assists.
Most teams would walk away from a win satisfied. That was not the case for Jones County, which overcame a slow start to pull away in the second half, feeding off turnovers.
“We picked it up in the second half; we turned them over a little bit,” Greyhounds head coach Buck Harris told Hype-South.com following Saturday’s win.
The importance of starting off strong is key for the Greyhounds in a region where four teams were ranked in the top ten during the preseason. The first chance to reinforce the importance of that will come often going forward.
“We just started slow,” Douglas said of Saturday’s game. “To win big games in our region, we’ll have to start off fast.”
