Within a field of more than 2,600 runners competing at Parkview High School in the Georgia Middle School State Championships, a pair of runners from Jones County shone bright.
One of them, sixth-grader Madison Marshall, earned a pair of podium finishes, taking third in the 3200 meters and sixth in the 1600, taking honors near the front in a field mostly comprised of seventh and eighth graders.
Marshall’s weekend put a wrap on what’s considered the most successful middle school distance running season in program history, as she claimed 10 gold medals, school records in the 800, 1600, and 3200 meters as well as all-American honors in the 1600 and 3200 meters.
Another girls’ runner, Phoebe Palmer, closed out her middle school career with a pair of personal bests. The eighth-grader did so in the 1600 and 3200 meters.
