So far this season, Jones County’s performances in the middle school cross country ranks have been near the front.
Saturday was no different on its home course with a combined six Jones County runners finishing in the top 20 of both middle school races in the Rancher’s Release The Greyhounds Invitational.
In the girls race, where Jones County finished second, the top finisher was Mary Barnwell in sixth with a time of 14:33.19 on a two-mile course. She had plenty of company not far behind in the running order as Phoebe Palmer was seventh with a time of 14:34.32 and fifth-grader Madison Marshall in eighth with a showing of 14:38.70. Charleigh Feizet ran 14:59.06 to come in ninth.
Other top Jones County finishes in the girls race came from Peyton Tate and Sydney Vaughan in 27th and 30th with times of 16:56.68 and 17:05.42.
Aiden Davis’ 13:36.26 led the boys to a finish of third as he came in 11th. Owen Wommack’s 13:54.25 was good for 15th with Cruz Hudgins one spot behind in 16th as he ran a 13:56.06.
