Middle school runners claim top finishes at Clash of the Classes

The future of Jones County’s cross-country program was reinforced at Saturday’s Clash of the Classes meet in Bleckley County.

In the overall team results, middle school runners from Jones County swept both sixth grade races, won first in the girls eighth grade race and were third in the boys event, with the seventh-grade race having Jones County come in second in the boys’ event and fifth in the girls’ race.

In the girls sixth grade race, Phoebe Palmer, Kennedy Marshall and Baleigh Gowan led with finishes of sixth, seventh and eighth. Mary Barnwell was second in the seventh grade race with the eighth grade finish being led by Catelen Myers in fourth and Becca Durrett in fifth.

Four finishes in the top 10 led Jones County in the boys sixth grade race with Brooks Scott coming in second ahead of Cruz Hudgins in sixth, Peyton Simmons in eighth and Daniel Sanchez in tenth. Multiple top 10s also came the way of Jones County in the seventh grade race with Owen Wommack, Jace Grogan and Gage Pittman in fifth, sixth and 10th with the top finish in the eighth grade race being Lane Schomber in 18th.
